As a cricket loving family business, based in Australia, we have found it impossible to not notice the role of the McGrath Foundation across Australia in supporting families suffering with breast cancer – not least because of the distinctive pink that is synonymous with this organisation and the work they do. The McGrath Foundation was started by Jane McGrath and her famous cricketing husband Glen McGrath in 2005 after Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer. Jane passed away in 2008 and her great friend Tracy Bevan vowed to carry on the work they had started. Today the McGrath Foundation provides 145 breast care nurses to families across Australia.
The traditional Pink Test held in Sydney in early January each year is a key event in the McGrath Foundation and Test match calendar. Players don McGrath Foundation pink caps, logos in pink adorn their shirts, ground signage is turned pink, bat handles are pink and most visibly the stumps are in pink. It’s a Test match that is special. It reminds us of what Jane McGrath represented and the need to keep supporting the work that the McGrath Foundation does.
The Game is a small family business based in Melbourne, creating and marketing unique leather wallets designed to remind cricket passionates of the game they love. We decided at the outset that we should give something back to the community. We believe any business should provide benefit to both the community and customers – it should add value and make people’s lives better as a result of the business activity. To this end, we began a relationship with the McGrath Foundation and Tracy Bevan in 2015 and today are a Community Friend of the McGrath Foundation. We donate money each year to this important cause and over the years have launched pink wallets and pink fundraising initiatives. Pink it is and it’s a colour that represents the great work of the McGrath Foundation. We are proud to be a Community Partner for 2021.
